Short biographical sketch of Prof Ottavia Porzio

Ottavia Porzio is an Associate Professor (since 2005) and Program Manager for the Laboratory of Diagnosis of Endocrinology at Polyclinic Tor Vergata, Rome. She obtained her degree in 1992 in Medicine at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” with a score of 110/110 cum laude. She was then admitted to a Medical Doctor in 1993 at the same institute. In 1998 she became a specialist in Endocrinology and Metabolism. Until 1999, she was a researcher at IRCCS Ospedale Bambino Gesù in Rome. In 2000, she was full-time with the University and became assistant professor. Her main research activities are: Regulation of pancreatic insulin secretion; Functional characterization of hybrid insulin receptor / IGF-I in muscle tissue and human adipose of obese and diabetic subjects; Identification of new genes / gene products as candidates for diabetes type 2 and forms; monogenic diabetes; and Functional characterization of new mutations of the gene CYP21A2 in patients with Adrenogenital syndrome of 21-hydroxylase deficiency.
