Short biographical sketch of Prof Maria Cristina Piro

Dr. Maria Cristina Piro obtained a degree in Biological Sciences, 110/110 cum laude from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1990. She subsequently specialized in Biotechnological Applications, 50/50 cum laude from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” in 1994 and underwent Postdoc training at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA (1996-1998) and also at the University of California, Irvine, USA (1998-1999). She returned to “Tor Vergata” University as a researcher and obtained her PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2005. Her research area includes: Functional and structural characterization of mutant hemeproteins; Detection and analysis of p73 transcriptional targets; and Analysis of salivary miRNAome.
