Short biographical sketch of Prof Giampiero Mei

Professor Giampiero Mei graduated in physics at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1987. Between 1994-2004 he was a researcher in Biochemistry c/o the Medicine Faculty at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” and since then has become an Associate Professor in Biochemistry within the same faculty. He has been teaching Physics, Biophysics and Biochemistry to Masters students since 1993 for different classes within the School of Medicine at “Tor Vergata.” He taught two Masters courses at the Faculty of Engineering at “Tor Vergata,” namely, “Simulation and modelling of biologic system” (2002-2003) and “Structure and dynamics of cells” (2003-2006). Between 2002-2005, he taught PhD students in “Robotics and Informatics in Surgery ” and currently teaches “Biochemistry and Molecular Biology” at the Medical Faculty. He has published more than 60 papers, with a total IF higher than 160. His research area is the relationship between protein structure and function: conformational stability studies of proteins by equilibrium unfolding measurements; kinetic measurements of the folding/unfolding process of metal containing proteins; structure to function relationship of LDL protein; structural and functional behavior of monomeric and oligomeric enzymes under high pressure condition; Fluorescence microscopy; and Spectroscopic techniques.
