Short biographical sketch of Dr Marianna Buttarelli
Dr. Marianna Buttarelli obtained her master’s degree in Biology and human evolution from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. She studied the regulation of p53 by its main interactors, MDM2 and MDM4, at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) in the laboratory of Dr. Fabiola Moretti. Subsequently, during her PhD, she continued this activity under the same supervision, deciphering the crosstalk between estrogens and MDM4 in hormone-dependent female tumors (i.e., breast and ovarian cancers). She obtained her PhD at the University of Sacred Heart of Rome in 2014. As a postdoctoral fellow, she moved to the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Rome, where she conducted translational research about gynecological diseases under the clinical mentorship of Prof. Giovanni Scambia. During that period, she studied the biological aspects of cervical and ovarian tumors using in vitro and in vivo patient-derived models combined with omics sciences (i.e., genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics) with the final aims of identifying prognostic and/or predictive biomarkers and elucidating mechanisms of chemoresistance. Recently, she moved to the University of Rome Tor Vergata in Prof. Eleonora Candi’s lab as an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in molecular biology. She’s collaborating on a research project to evaluate the transcriptional program regulated by the transcription factors TP63 and ZNF148 in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC).
