Short biographical sketch of Prof Francesca Bernassola
Francesca Bernassola is professor of Molecular Biology (SSD BIO/11) at the Department of Experimental Medicine of “Tor Vergata” University. She was previously a Research Assistant at the IDI-IRCCS Biochemistry Laboratory. After receiving her PhD Degree in “Epithelia Biology and Physiopatology” at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, she did her postdoctoral training at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA (2001-2003) in the laboratory directed by Dr Pier Paolo Pandolfi. Her research interests are primarily directed towards studying the contribution of the E3 ubiquitin ligase WWP1 to the pathogenesis and progression of acute myeloid leukaemia. Specifically, her group seeks to investigate the effects of WWP1 inhibition on leukaemia growth and chemotherapy sensitivity and to identify and characterize novel WWP1 protein substrates mediating its oncogenic activities in leukemic blasts. She has published 65 peer-reviewed papers (total Impact Factor 519.999; Corresponding Author in 15 articles).
