Isabella Savini started her professional training (1983-1987) in the Department of Biochemical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Rome “La Sapienza.” She obtained her PhD in Biochemistry at “La Sapienza” in 1988. Upon graduation, she worked as Research Assistant of Biochemistry at University of Rome “Tor Vergata,” Faculty of Medicine (1988-2000). From 2001 to 2007 she served as Researcher of Nutritional Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine at “Tor Vergata.” And since 2008 she is Associate Professor of Nutritional Sciences, Faculty of Medicine. She is a member of the National Committee for revision of Italian Dietary Reference Intakes (LARN, 1996), member of the Italian Society of Nutrition (SINU) and member of the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SIB). Her research activity was initially focused on the characterization, using spectroscopy, of the active sites of redox enzymes and especially those of copper- or NAD-dependent enzymes. More recently, her research has focused on the novel field of nutrigenomics by investigating the biological role of antioxidant vitamins and phytochemicals. She has studied the effects of these compounds on the expression and activity of redox-sensitive transcription factors, as well as the effects on redox-mediated signal transduction. In total, she has published 41 papers.
